This series of oil paintings are done (mostly) in small format and on panel. The sizes vary from 6x8” to 14x22”.
This series was inspired by the sky over Brussels, Belgium. While living and studying there I found myself drawn upward. The canopy provided respite from the busyness on the street while carrying me into the tableau above. I was mesmerized by unending continuity of air travel over Europe’s capital and by the figures they cut into the natural canvas of the firmament. By looking up one could see these beautiful compositions at any given moment. I began painting these in 2011, and continued this series in the background of other projects. Painting these is playful and full and movement, which provides a perfect warm up for my painting sessions. These paintings capture the quick lightness and movements of planes in the sky and a brush across canvas. They are a simple place to rest my mind when the process of painting - as it does - becomes steeped in too much thinking.

This series from 2012 onward investigates the invisible energy fields that surround our thoughts and feelings. They are the fruits of a journey inward into the depths of the subjective experience. I uncover and impart the slow passage of time. I ask the holy spirit for answers and want to share what I learn. I hold onto and hold still the first thought, which is the best thought. I am vulnerable in embarrassment and in asking for salvation. I imagined the forms there/of infinite space and painted what I saw. Strong, delicate and exact.

This series progresses from Energy Fields, where abstract clouds of colour float in colour fields. Impermanence refers to the meditative act of observing a thought or sensation and watching it dissolve or transmute. The images are feelings suspended in a state of dissolution.
Ongoing series.
